World Book Day

The Enthusiastic Elephants have had so much fun dressing up as their favourite characters today. From David Attenborough to Roald Dahl's Twits to The Cat in the Hat, we saw all our characters in school today. We started the day off with a fashion show and then we enjoyed a carousel of activities where we designed our own bookmarks, became library detectives, played reading Bingo and wrote our own stories. We shared stories with the Positive Penguin Class and all round had a jam packed day of fun and literature.

Skipton Castle Trip

On Monday 28th February we went on an exciting trip to Skipton Castle. We began our visit with an exciting tour of the castle, learning about it's history along the way. After lunch we went on a photo treasure hunt exploring the castle grounds in more detail as we located key features of the castle on our treasure hunt list.

Building Castles

Our topic for Spring 1 has been Castles. On Friday 18th February we had our DT day and spent it building castles. We worked in groups, first designing how we wanted our castles to look and deciding which resources we would use. We then began creating the moat, collaging and painting the castle before adding the finishing touches which included flags and a drawbridge for some. The teachers were all so blown away with the finished product and how well all the groups worked together as a team.

PE Day:

PE is on a Monday. Pupils should come to school dressed in their PE kit.

Entry / Exit from School:

Our class will enter the school from the side gate on Carlisle Road. Parents and Carers drop off and collect their child outside the classroom door at the bottom of the steps in the Year 1 playground. You may then exit through the gate at the bottom of the playground which leads to the ginnel. Please turn right and follow the one way system in the ginnel.

Newsletters and Information for Parents and Carers

Please find our latest newsletters and information for parents and carers in the folders below. The KIRF targets are 'Key Instant Recall Facts' in Maths. They focus on basic mental Maths recall skills to support the children in increasing their speed and accuracy of mental calculation. Please support your child at home to learn their KIRF Targets. These are changed each half-term and feed into our Maths learning in school. Please  also find below the Year 1 Common Exception Words. These are words which don't follow a spelling rule or pattern and many of which phonics won't apply to. Please support your child to learn the Common Exception Words at home.

Our Online Resources

Down below you will find the range of different online resources your child can access at home. Logins have been sent home with your child for these so please encourage them to log on and have a go as often as possible. Sometimes the children's homework will be set on these platforms so please keep a look out for added tasks.

Phonics

As you will be aware, Year 1 are due to take their Phonics Screening Check in Summer 2022. We are teaching Phonics daily in school and encourage the continuation of Phonics learning at home. To help parents/carers with this, we have a Phonics page set up on our school website that is full of guidance and resources to be used. The link for the page is below, we hope you find it useful.

Home Learning

If you are having to isolate at home but are well we have created a home-learning page to ensure you do not fall behind in your learning whilst at home.

Please follow the link below to access your home learning activities.

Meet the Teacher

Thank you to those who attended the 'Meet the Teacher' Zooms. If you were unable to join us, please find below the PowerPoint we shared at the meeting which outlines our routines.

Continuous and Enhanced Provision:

We are enjoyed exploring the indoor and outdoor provision areas every day.  Here are some photos of our different areas. The challenges in each area change regularly to link to our current learning.
