Remembrance Day 2021

We are incredibly lucky as a school to be so close to our cenotaph, meaning we are able to get out into the community in order to commemorate Remembrance Day. This year, our Year 5 and 6 children took part in the service led by the Royal British Legion at the cenotaph and laid a school wreath that was put together by our Year 3 and 4 children. Whilst our eldest children were there, the rest of the school came together via zoom in order to take part in the 2 minute silence at 11am and learn a little more about Remembrance Day and why it is so important.

KS2 Learning Log - Roman and Viking shields

Over half term, our Key Stage 2 children were busy furthering their learning undertaken in their History topics. They conducted their own research and created their own shields! Can you spot which shields are Roman and which are Viking?

What is the same and different about them?
Which do you think came first?

How were they made?
Which would you rather take into battle with you?

Black History Month October 2021

This year, we celebrated Black History Month following the theme of 'Proud to be'. Each class was assigned a prominent black artist to research and then create a piece of art emulating the artist. Each class created a double page spread showing the research of their artist; they found out about the artist's life, inspirations, techniques and famous pieces. Then, they emulated the artist's work and artistic medium to create a piece of art to express what they were proud to be. We then set up a whole school art gallery and each class visited the gallery and saw all of the outstanding art work that was created.
