Home Learning wb 20.4
Good morning Otters! I hope you have all had a fabulous Easter. Home learning begins again this week. We will start off the new term with some maths, English, Science and Art! You all continue to make myself and Mrs Hogg proud with all your hard work during this unfamiliar time. Mrs Hogg has said that she misses you all and is very impressed with all your amazing pictures showing how you are all keeping yourselves busy!
Read on to see what we have set you this week!
Login to Spelling Shed where we have assigned some games for spelling list 25 – the ‘ee’ sound spelt ‘ey’.

This week, we will ask you to continue to access the White Rose Home Learning resource by clicking on https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/ then selecting Year 2. The White Rose Maths Team have continued to prepare five maths lessons each week. Watch the short video showing you clearly and simply how to help your child complete the activity successfully. Please complete the Year 2 Summer Term week 1 unit this week – fractions moving onto measurement. If you can’t print sheets, don’t worry- you could ask your child to orally go through answers with you or use the home learning book to record answers. Also try to spend some time on TT Rock Stars, Mathletics and Education City this week (logins in planners).
In your home learning book, we would like you to write a letter to someone you admire. What is admiration? What qualities do you admire in someone? E.g. are they kind, funny, determined? Use the guide, question prompts and success criteria attached below to support you. Please remember those capital letters, finger spaces and full stops plus commas for lists and adjectives/expanded noun phrases to describe someone!
Choose at least one to complete through the week. You can do all of the activities below if you choose. Our new topic this half term is all about growing plants and nature.
Discover a range of natural materials to create a beautiful piece of art. The artwork can be of absolutely anything. What materials do you think will be good to use in your artwork? You can use materials found in your garden or you may even discover some materials on a walk! The following clip looks at the famous natural artist Andy Goldsworthy. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zs87tfr

Lesson 2 - Planting seeds and bulbs. (See Science Lesson 2 Seeds and Bulbs powerpoint and Science Lesson 2 activity plant growth prediction sheet). I have had to split powerpoint lesson number 2 into 2 parts as unfortunately the document was too large to upload onto the class page. Please see below.
Plant seeds. Discuss what conditions are ideal for plant growth. Monitor daily. Please see ‘Easy ways to plant and grow seeds at home’ sheet for helpful tips for finding seeds if you don’t have any at home already.
Plant sunflower seeds to see how tall they grow.
Plant bulbs to compare if they grow differently from seeds. Plant the same fruit or vegetable seed in each pot for the comparative test.
Useful learning video clip: What does a plant need to grow? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpxnyrd/articles/zxxsyrd
Challenge: In your home learning books can you research the features of a plant? What are the parts of a plant called? What conditions does a plant need to help it grow healthy and strong?
