Homework 11/6/21

Spelling: Common Exception Words

As we are coming to the end of year 1 and 2, it is expected that your child can read and write all their common exception words. Please have a go and reading and writing each of the words in the documents (Y1 and Y2) attached. If you feel your child may need a little more support with this, choose one of the groups to focus on.

Year 2: have a go at reading the first group of the year 2 common exception words below.

Challenge: can you spell these too?

Maths: Mathletics (logins given- please ask if you need them again)

We have unlocked some more units on our online platform Mathletics. Please try to complete the Multiplication and Division (Groups, Grouping in Twos, Grouping in Fives, Grouping in Tens, Share the Treasure) and Fractions units (Half, Is It Half?). Doing a bit of Mathletics weekly even when it is not set for homework is a great way to keep improving your Maths skills. Let's see how many gold bars we can earn for completing activities this week!

Reminder

Please continue to encourage your child to access the online learning platforms available to them where possible. These are Spelling ShedBug ClubNumbotsMathletics and Education City

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Robinson

Homework 14.5.2021

This week we have enjoyed learning more about multiplication in Maths (2s, 5s and 10s). We have been doing more work on The Dinosaur's Diary in English (a book by Julia Donaldson) and we loved Pyjamarama Day where we enjoyed stories and had a lovely hot chocolate treat.

Maths: This week we would like you explore Numbots. I wonder which robot level you will reach this week? Will you earn enough points to customise your robot? Will we win most class points in our weekly Numbots competition against Reception and KS1 classes?

Little and often works best for Numbots as there are many levels to work through. Level difficulty progresses as your child completes the previous level so you might find they whizz through the first levels. You have been given all of your child's logins for online platforms but if you need them again just ask.

Phonics: Choose from the 3 Challenge levels this week. See below. Challenge 1 is the easiest and Challenge 3 is the most tricky. Don't worry if you don't have access to a printer- you could draw out the task on paper. Paper homework tasks may now be brought into school or sent in via the tier group email as before.

Any queries regarding this weeks homework, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Have a lovely weekend.

Well done for all your hard work this week Penguins! Keep it up!

Homework 11.12.2020

Another fantastic week in KS1! We began our week by finishing our most recent unit of work on subtraction. Children have continued to amaze me with how well they got to grips with the methods shown and how hard they continue to work. Well done everyone!

The elf has been up to his mischievous self again this week. He has been wrapping himself in a Tortilla wraps, turning himself into an astronaut, pushing fred the frog off of the class screen and lots more.

Please see below for this week's homework..

Year 1 Spelling: this week we would like you to have a go at writing few simple sentences using your common exception words. Please see more information on the sheet attached. Similar to last week, if you don't have access to a printer simply write your sentences on some paper.

Year 1 Maths: this week we would like you to practise our current KIRF target: number bonds to 20! Please see more information on the sheet attached below.

Homework 04.12.2020

What an exciting week we have had in year 1 and 2! Our class elf from The North Pole has come to see us. He has been up to all sorts of mischief: making a hole in our classroom ceiling, making a swing out of a toilet roll tube and stealing our spanish guitars from our display and trying to play them!

During maths this week we have mastered our subtraction unit of work (Y1) and addition of 2-2digit numbers (Y2)! We are also doing amazing with our phonics and are loving the story, The Squirrels Who Squabbled, in English. We have been tumbling, climbing and jumping in Gymnastics and learning all about the 7 continents and 5 oceans in Geography! We have started to practice our songs for our Christmas performance too...

Homework for this week:

Year 1 Maths: This week we would like you to complete the subtraction task attached. If you don't have access to a printer, you can simply use the screen and write down you number sentences on paper. There is more information regarding the task on the sheet attached below.

Year 1 Phonics: Can you match the lower case letter to it's capital letter? Challenge: Can you practise writing these? Don't worry if you don't have access to a printer as you can still practise writing these letters on paper. More information regarding the task attached on the sheet.

Year 2 Maths: I have assigned a Y1 subtraction task recap this week on Education City, ready for beginning our new unit of work next week. Please log on and watch the Learn Screen video recapping how to take away. Then, work through the activities set to recap knowledge of taking 1 digit away from 2 digit numbers. This will make sure we are ready for next week's learning.

Year 2 Spelling: A new list is available on Spelling Shed and there is also a paper version to download and print.

Any questions regarding this week's homework, please don't hesitate to get in touch via the KS1 email address.

Have a lovely weekend everyone!

                                    Homework Friday 27th November

Well done for all of your hard work with your homework last week Penguins! I can already see lots of improvements with our spellings! And well done to my Year 2s who continue to try their hardest in preparation for their phonics screening over the next few weeks. You continue to make me so proud.

Year Maths: We have assigned some activities on Mathletics recapping our previous topic numbers within 20 and teen numbers. What can you remember? Try to complete as many questions as you can.

Year 1 Spellings: Well done to those of you who practised their Y1 spellings last week. This week, we would like you to have a go at the Group 2 spellings. Please see more information regarding the spellings on the sheet attached. If you have completed these, why not have a go at logging into spelling shed (Log in's sent home previously on login sheet) where you can find some assigned spelling games for our tricky words!

Year 2 Maths: We have assigned some activities linking to our current topic: addition and subtraction. Try to complete as many as you can!

Year 2 Phonics: With our Phonics screening still just around the corner, this week we would like to to complete the phoneme spotter postcard. Read the postcard attached below. How many split-e sounds can you find? Can you record these words in the table?

Any question about this week homework, please don't hesitate to get in touch. Have a lovely weekend!

Homework Friday 20th November

Please complete by Wednesday 25th November

Thank you once again for sending in photos and updates of last week's homework. You did so well!

Year 1 Maths: We are continuing to learn and quickly recall addition facts to 10. Your homework is to log onto Numbots (login already given on login sheet) and see how far you can progress through the robot levels. It starts easy and builds up but you can only unlock more levels once you can complete the current level you are on. We would love to hear how far you have got. Little and often is best for Numbots to keep mental skills sharp so it's a good one to do if you have a spare 5-10 minutes here and there.

Year 1 Spelling and Reading: see attached homework called Common Exception Words. The instructions for the task are on the sheet.

Year 2 Maths: This week we have been working hard with our addition and subtraction of 1-digit numbers from a 2 digit number. We have been using a numberline to help us count our jumps, and a hundred square to help us find the next ten. If you have any problems or questions regarding the method, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Year 2 Phonics: With our Phonics screening check only round the corner, please have a go at completing the mock test attached below. There are a series of real and nonsense words you child your child will need to read. Try to encourage them to decode, then blend the words. It's the last push!!

Please let us know if you are having any issues accessing or completing the homework tasks.

Have a lovely weekend!

Homework Friday 13th November 2020

Please complete by Wednesday 18th November

Thank you for sending in photos of last week's homework. You are all superstars! Next week we will be giving out Mathletics certificates and I'm sure there will be lots!

Y1 Maths: We are learning to work out addition facts to 10. Play the game below to practise this skill. If you can complete the task easily, your next challenge is to become so fast that your addition answers are instant! If you are not yet instant with your addition recall then using counters or fingers is fine to start with whilst you learn the facts.

Y1 and 2 Phonics: We have been working on the split sounds a-e, i-e and o-e as in make, smile and home. This will be revision for my year 2 children. Please complete the attached sheet writing words with split sounds. Your child may need a little more support with this task as this is a new skill working with the split sounds and they may need some help to work out what each picture is (answers for parents are: bike, time, bite, smile, slime, ride, snake, rake, skate, grape, shave, plate, bone, cone, rope, smoke, stone and phone).

Y2 Maths: This week we have been working very hard learning about adding and subtracting 10s. Please complete the sheet attached below. If you do not have access to a printer, you can use an online hundred square and complete the number tracks.

Please let us know if you are having any issues accessing or completing the homework tasks.

Have a lovely weekend!

Homework for Friday 6th November 2020.

Please complete by Wednesday 11th November.

Y1 Maths: We have assigned some activities on Mathletics linked to our current learning on addition within 10.

Y1 Phonics: Treasure or Fake Words Activity. Children can cut out the coins (refining those scissor skills!) and then place or stick them on the treasure chest or bin depending on if the word if real (treasure) or a nonsense word (bin). If you don't have access to a printer then you could easily adapt by writing the words on paper and cutting out and placing in two groups. Please send us a photo of the activity completed via the tier group email.

Y2 Maths: I assigned some activities on Mathletics based around our most recent units of work. Please try to work through as many as possible smiley

Y2 Phonics: Phonics screening check is fast approaching! We have looked again at split e sounds this week e.g. a-e -> cake (they'll be able to explain it to you). These sounds are difficult to spot without the sound buttons underneath so we are encouraging the children to identify these words in normal text. There is a phoneme spotter task where the children have to read and spot words with the split e sounds and write them down.

Please let us know if you are having any issues accessing or completing the homework tasks.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Homework Friday 2nd October 2020

Please complete by Wednesday 7th October.

Thank you for sending in homework for last week via the tier group emails and we can see you have been busy on Mathletics too!

Maths: please log into Mathletics and complete the next assigned activities from our place value unit.

School Council: please encourage your child to apply for the role of Year 1/2 School Councillor and fill out their nomination form, ready for our ballot in a couple of weeks. The School Council representatives in each year group who are elected will meet with Mrs Fuller through the year (virtually or in person in line with Covid-19 safety measures) to share class ideas and views on different school matters. It is a very special job indeed! Your child could either do some of the writing themselves on the form if they are able to or they could tell you their ideas and you could write/type for them.

Please return your nominations via the tier group email (either attach a typed version or a photo of the written version).

Please let us know if you are having an issues accessing or completing the homework tasks or don't have access to a printer.

Have a fabulous weekend!
