The Positive Penguins had a fantastic time visiting Skipton Castle Today! The children began their visit with an exciting tour of the castle, learning about its history along the way! Then followed by a castle feature hunt in the afternoon, exploring the grounds of the castle in more detail. Thank you to all the staff at Skipton Castle for making our visit so memorable!

Positive Penguins DT Day - Castle Building

Monday 14th February 2022

Last Thursday, children across school took park in a school of kindness workshop - a workshop ran by the The Charity 52 Lives as part of Children's Mental Health Week. The workshop aimed to spread kindness and empower children by helping them realise that the little choices they make every day have the power to change people's lives, and improve their own physical and mental health at the same time.

The children learnt about what kindness is and the impact it has on ourselves, our classroom, our community, and the world, as well as the science of kindness and including the changes it triggers to our minds and bodies. The children then discussed a real person in need of kindness - Gladys. Gladys lives in a care home and turns 101 this week! The children worked together to make gifts, cards, bracelets, and letters for Gladys to make her birthday a special one.

A huge thank you to Krish (a Kindness Captain at 52 lives) who facilitated our workshop and made it extremely enjoyable for our children. Also a big thank you to FROGS who made a donation to 52 lives to ensure kindness workshops continue to impact children across the country. We hope the children have continued to spread kindness at home!

Meet the Teacher Information

Newsletters and Information for Parents and Carers

Please find our latest newsletters and information for parents and carers in the folders below. The KIRF targets are 'Key Instant Recall Facts' in Maths. They focus on basic mental Maths recall skills to support the children in increasing their speed and accuracy of mental calculation. These are changed each half-term and feed into our Maths learning in school. Please also find below our Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words. These are words which don't follow a spelling rule or pattern and many of which Phonics won't apply to.  Please support your child at home to learn their KIRF Targets and Common Exception words

Our Online Resources

Down below you will find the range of different online resources your child can access at home. Logins have been sent home with your child for these so please encourage them to log on as often as possible. Sometimes the children's homework will be set on these platforms so please keep a look out for added tasks.
Please note: Times Table Rock Stars is used for Year 2 children upwards in school. Numbots is a partner program designed especially for younger children so Year 1 are encouraged to use this instead of Times Table Rock Stars.
