Welcome to Year 1/2 Positive Penguins

Our Staff Team:

Class Teacher: Miss Robinson

Teaching Assistant: Miss Nicholas

Teaching Assistant: Miss Ward

PE Day:

PE is on a Monday. Pupils should come to school dressed in their PE kit.

Entry / Exit from School:

Our class will enter the school from the side gate on Carlisle Road. Parents and Carers drop off and collect their child outside the classroom door at the bottom of the steps in the Year 1 playground. You may then exit through the gate at the bottom of the playground which leads to the ginnel. Please turn right and follow the one way system in the ginnel.

Life Long Ago

Today KS1 had their 'Life long ago' workshop. They spent time in the morning being paleontologists locating and identifying fossils from some of the pasts most iconic dinosaurs! This afternoon they had a special visit from baby Stegosaurus, Mia, and the gigantic  T-rex, Sophie!

No children were harmed/eaten in the taking of these photographs!

What a great start the Positive Penguins have had to School Games Week!

Newsletters and Information for Parents and Carers

Please find our latest newsletters and information for parents and carers in the folders below. The KIRF targets are 'Key Instant Recall Facts' in Maths. They focus on basic mental Maths recall skills to support the children in increasing their speed and accuracy of mental calculation. These are changed each half-term and feed into our Maths learning in school. Please also find below our Year 1 and 2 Common Exception Words. These are words which don't follow a spelling rule or pattern and many of which Phonics won't apply to.  Please support your child at home to learn their KIRF Targets and Common Exception words

Today we were weather reporters!!!

This week for our PE session, we got the high apparatus out! We balanced, climbed, jumped and landed! The children thoroughly enjoyed our session.

Update: Our Return to School!

What an exciting week we have had in the Positive Penguins! From WOW writing to marvellous maths, PE and Art, all the children have been working ever so hard. They continue to make us so proud.

Below you can find some pictures from the week. We have been busy with some Bonfire night artwork, as well as a Spanish themed afternoon! We learnt all about Spain, where abouts on the Globe it is and looked closely at different aspects of the culture. Children had a go Flemenco Dancing (it was fab!) and created their very own Spanish guitars. We also looked at the language and the class have learnt to say 'My name is .....' in spanish. Ask them to show you....hopefully they have remembered!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Our Online Resources

Down below you will find the range of different online resources your child can access at home. Logins have been sent home with your child for these so please encourage them to log on as often as possible. Sometimes the children's homework will be set on these platforms so please keep a look out for added tasks.
Please note: Times Table Rock Stars is used for Year 2 children upwards in school. Numbots is a partner program designed especially for younger children so Year 1 are encouraged to use this instead of Times Table Rock Stars.

Half Term Homework - Black History Month Learning Log

Black History Month - What is it? Why do we celebrate it?

Below is a powerpoint to read through all about Black History Month. It looks what what the month is for, why we celebrate it and why it is so important. There are opportunities throughout for discussions and opportunity to pause and reflect upon the struggles of black individuals in our history and the triumphs that have followed.

Serena Williams

The individual we will be researching as a class is Serena Williams. She is a global sporting superstar whose achievements are outstanding. Below are some videos on Serena Williams that you can watch as a starting point for your research on this incredible woman and her even more incredible life.

Home Learning

Well done year 1 and 2 for all your hard work this week. All the staff in KS1 couldn't be more impressed with how well you have all adapted to our new way of learning. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing what you have all been upto over the last few days with your learning so please keep sending or showing me (in zooms) what you have been up to over the week.

As promised, below are some pictures of our class completing their home learning. If you would like me to share some of your learning, please email me some pictures using the year 1 and 2 email address provided.

Again, we couldn't express any more how proud we are of each and every one of you.

Have a lovely and well deserved weekend everyone laugh

Miss Robinson x

Great start to the week in year 1 provision!

The Penguins have been hard at work completing this weeks challenges in the provision room. Keep up the hard work year 1 and 2!

As you will be aware, Year 1 will be taking their Phonics Screening check in Summer 2021 and Year 2 in Autumn 2. To best support your child with this, we are teaching Phonics daily in school and encourage the continuation of Phonics learning at home. To enable you to do so, we have a Phonics page set up on our school website that is full of guidance and resources to be used. The link for the page is below, we hope you find it useful.

Home Learning

If you are having to isolate at home but are well, we have created a home-learning page to support parents/carers and children.

Please follow the link below to access your home learning activities! Remember to keep in touch with your class teacher via the Key Stage 1 email
