Home Learning - Week Beginning 23.03.2020
Update - 27.03.2020
Good Morning Persevering Pumas! It's Friday (Yipeee!!) and you've almost completed your first week of home learning - well done children (& parents!)
Please can you all send me a photograph completing the piece of work or learning activity you've either enjoyed the most or been the most proud of. Thank you to those who have already sent a photograph or video in, I've really enjoyed looking at what you've all been up to.
More work will be uploaded ready for Week 2 of home learning before Monday morning. In the meantime, I hope you all have a lovely weekend, fingers crossed the sunshine is here to stay!
Update - 26.03.2020
We're now onto day 4 and we've almost made it through a whole week of home learning! I can see that many of you have accessed our online learning tools (Mathletics, Spelling Shed and Bug Club). Education City has now reloaded its site and hopefully this now means that more of you should be able to access the science activities on there. I'd love to have a look at some of the other learning that you've done in your home learning books too so please keep sending the photographs in!
Stay safe everyone!
Update - 25.03.2020
I was delighted to receive the link to this video of Ellie and her brother, Lucas, being active in their garden! It was great to see them enjoying their learning and being active at home. Take a look at the link below and hopefully it might inspire more of you to be active in your gardens on this glorious, sunny day! Please send in photographs of what you've been learning too - I'd love to post more of what you've been up to on here to show others!
Update - 24.03.2020
Good Morning Persevering Pumas!
I hope you are all finding the learning resources on this web page useful and you are all working hard at home. I have added an extra activity to the home learning resources for you to enjoy during your creative time. I can't wait to see what you've been up to at home and the work you've completed so please send in lots of photographs via email and remember to ask any questions via email too!
Hello Persevering Pumas!
I'm sure you're eager to find out what you would have been learning at school this week and therefore are now going to be learning at home. Equally, I hope that parents/carers find the suggested outline of home learning activities useful. Please feel free to follow the suggested timetable above or adapt these learning activities to fit around your week and email me if you have any questions at all.
I would love to see what you've been up to at home so please send me an email with some photographs attached and most importantly, remember to have fun!
In maths this week, we are beginning our unit on decimals. Throughout the week you will learn to recognise tenths and hundredths and then explore tenths as decimals on a place value grid and on a numberline. The final lesson of the week moves onto dividing a one-digit number by ten.
To support you with this, the White Rose Hub (the scheme we follow everyday in school) has created some excellent resources. There are 5 lessons for you to complete this week, each with a useful video teaching you the skill and a worksheet for you to complete. I have posted the link where you can find the teaching videos beneath alongside each of the 5 worksheets. If you have a printer then feel free to print the worksheets and glue them into your home learning book, if not you can simply write the answers to the questions into your home learning book - it's entirely up to you!
Please continue to practise your times tables. Use Times Tables Rock Stars for around 15 minutes of practise each day.
I have also assigned for you the Mathletics activities for the maths objectives you've learnt this week for you to complete once you've done all 5 of the lessons above.
Please read the document below which outlines your English learning for the week. It directly links to the Science that we've set as the topic work, as this week is Science Week! The document contains all of the information you need for your spelling and reading activities - these have been assigned on Bug Club and Spelling Shed.
Topic - Science
Your topic learning this week is based around plants; their features and what they need to grow. Read the document beneath which outlines a set of activities for you to complete on Education City and in your home learning book. If you are feeling creative, please feel free to add your own activities to enhance your learning of plants to the ones we've suggested.
Topic - DT (Cooking)
Whilst you're at home, it would be great if you learnt some life skills, starting with cooking for your family! Look at the step by step guide to creating a successful meal in the document below - ask an adult to help you with the cooking!!
Illustration to Creation:
As part of your daily creative time, every week we will be posting an illustration to create ideas for you to use at home. It's not just about writing and reading but how an image can inspire art, creativity, design, science, knowledge etc. More examples can be found using the hashtag #Illustration2Creation
Here is this image for this week 'Island':
Possible Ideas (feel free to come up with your own)
- Make a turtle from plasticine/clay
- Design a shelter on a desert island
- Paint an ocean scene including multi-coloured fish
- Find out 5 facts about each of the world's 5 oceans
- If you were shipwrecked, what would you do on your first day?
- Write a message to put in a bottle - what are you going to say about the world today?
