Arts and Design
Below are some creative/sensory activities which link with our learning this week.
Chinese New Year Sensory Play
This is a fantastic opportunity to have a go at using chop sticks, or developing fine motor skills.
Simply cook some noodles/spaghetti, then divide between two bowls, add a few drops of red food colouring to one bowl and yellow to the other (or whatever colours are available to you). Place on a tray, or if you dont have a big tray you could do this activity in an empty bath tub!
Chinese Dragon Craft
Its traditional to watch, or take part in a dragon dance on Chinese New Year. You can make your own dragon using an empty toilet roll, or kitchen roll tube. Stick some strips of coloured tissue paper (or cut strips from an orange Sainsburys bag!) to the end of the tube, decorate like a dragon (you could use milk bottle tops for its eyes). When you have finished, if you blow through the tube it will make your dragon breathe fire!
Chinese Drum Craft
Decorate the backs of two paper plates, tie some string (with a bead or a button attached to each end) onto a stick or wooden spoon. Place the wooden spoon or stick into the middle of the plates and secure with sellotape, ensuring that the string and beads hang out either side of the plates. Twist the drums stick between your hands to make it work!
