Thursday and Friday- Write a recount

Plan and write a recount of your recent trip to York where you took part in a Dig workshop and visited the Jorvik Viking Centre. Recounts are something you will have done several times before in school and should be a familiar text type.

Task 1: Look at the Powerpoint and Help Sheet to remind yourself what recounts are and what they need to include. Read the example recount to see what a good one looks like.

Task 2: Use the planner to plan your Jorvik recount, thinking back to back happened and in what order. You might want to visit the Jorvik website to remind yourself of what it was like there.

Task 3: Write your recount on lined paper. Aim to write between 1 and a half to 2 pages with paragraphs, neat handwriting, careful spelling and lots of detail and topic vocabulary. Push yourself to include some of the sentence types we have been learning this year such as use of relative clauses (Example: The Jorvik Viking Centre, which is a museum and visitor attraction in York, was the location of our first trip of Year 5).

Task 4: Edit and improve your recount, checking for errors with spelling, grammar and punctuation as well as improving word choices.
