Week beginning 5th July
Throughout the week, we are going to be completing a project called 'White Rose Tours', using our maths learning from across the year to plan ourselves (and our families) a holiday.
Watch the video above from the beginning to 13.42. It's important that you watch the video as this will explain the tasks as well as refresh your memory of statistics.
Task 1: Climate Worksheet - Complete this first as it will remind you of the work we've done on Statistics, check your answers using the answer sheet.
Task 2: Decide on a country you'd like to visit. Choose one of the examples given at the top of this worksheet and plot the data as a line graph.
Today we're going to remind ourselves of how to convert between miles and kilometers, so that we can work out how far away our chosen destination is. Please watch the video above from 13:42 - 29:29 for a refresher on how to convert between miles and kilometres, a reminder of how to solve problems (including money) and further information about the tasks today.
Task 1: Conversions - Using the information from the video about converting between miles and kilometres, please complete this worksheet. Check your answers using the answer sheet.
Task 2: Airport Problems - Using the information from the video, solve the problems on the worksheet relating to money and costs. Check your answers using the answer sheet.
Task 3: For the country you chose yesterday, plan out the cost of travel to your chosen destination on the sheet provided.
Watch the video above from 29:29 - 39:10. Today, we're going to be calculating the price of different accommodation options for our chosen holiday. You will need to watch the video for a refresher on solving money problems, including using fraction and percentage knowledge, and to find out further information about the tasks today.
Task 1: Accommodation - Work your way through the worksheet to solve the problems for the different characters. Check your answers using the answer sheet.
Task 2: Think about your family, decide which accommodation you'd like to stay at (would you like to be self-catering, full board or half-board) and use the information to work out how much it costs, including food. Don't forget to look at the deals and remember to include extra snacks (I know mums and dads like cups of tea!).
This lesson is all about budgeting for your holidays. Watch the video above from 39:10 - 55:27, which will show you how to convert between pounds and euros and pounds and dollars, whilst refreshing your knowledge of decimals.
Task 1: Budget - Complete the problems on the worksheet to help the characters know how much they have and how much they can spend on their holidays.
Task 2: Choose 4 activities you'd like to do on holiday and work out how much it'd cost for you and your family to complete each activity. You might want to cost in some snacks, or lunch if you didn't add this in yesterday.
Today's lesson is all about time and gives you an excellent refresher about how to read timetables. Watch the video from 55:27 to the end.
Task 1: Complete the time problems worksheet to help the characters understand important timing for their holidays.
Task 2: This activity is explained at the end of the video, it involves you calculating what time you'd need to set off from your house to arrive at the airport of your choice - can do use google maps to help you?
Put together all of the information for your planned holiday, including where you're going, where you're staying, what activities you're doing and how much it costs ready to share in our Zoom today!
