Staying Well

At Greenside Primary School, we try to promote wellbeing and give our children the tools and knowledge to maintain their own health. Please see the information below to help your family stay well and do not hesitate to contact us if you require any further information or support.

Pupils with Medical Conditions

We are committed to ensuring pupils at Greenside Primary School with medical conditions are properly supported so that they have full access to education, including school trips and physical education. We focus on the individual needs of each pupil and how their medical condition impacts on their school life. We actively promote close co-operation between Greenside, parents/carers, health professionals and other agencies to meet these needs.

Please see below "Supporting pupils at school with medical conditions" for further information. If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact us either by phone 0113 2574509 or email admin.info@greenside-sch.org.

Medication

Long-Term Medication

If your child requires long-term access to regular medication, please complete the 'Medication Consent Form' below. This should be completed and returned to Mrs Knowles at the school office along with the medication. Such medications include reliever (blue) inhalers, adrenaline autoinjector pens, etc.

Medicines will only be accepted if they are in-date, labelled clearly with the child’s name, provided in an original container (as dispensed by the pharmacist) and include instructions for administration, dosage and storage.

The school will not accept medicines that have been taken out of the container as originally dispensed or make changes to prescribed dosages, regardless of parental instruction.

Short-Term Medication

If your child needs to complete a short course of medication, such as antibiotics, it is preferred that this is done outside school hours. If this is impossible and/or detrimental to the child's health, then parents/carers should complete a "Medication Consent Form" and return it to Mrs Knowles at the school office, along with the medication.

Medicines will only be accepted if they are in-date, labelled clearly with the child’s name, provided in an original container (as dispensed by the pharmacist) and include instructions for administration, dosage and storage and a spoon, if necessary.

Please Note

  • Non-prescription medicines are only allowed in school if the exceptional circumstances have been discussed with Mrs Knowles and agreed by Mrs Fuller or another senior member of school staff.

  • No member of staff will be liable for any ill effects of administering medication so long as reasonable care has been taken.

  • Administering medication is a voluntary role; the school will always endeavour to meet these needs but may, on occasion, be unable to do so.
