Medication
Should a child require regular access to medicine then please discuss your child’s needs with the Child and Family Support Worker and your child’s class teacher. A ‘care plan’ will be completed and kept in our medical file. If your child is asthmatic, diabetic or has an allergy please let us know so that we can discuss our procedures with you as well as completing a 'care plan'. If a pupil needs to complete a course of medication it is preferred that this is done outside school hours. If this is impossible because it is a four time a day medicine, then parents should bring the medication to the school office in the original bottle together with a spoon (if necessary) and complete a form giving details of medicine, dosage, time and authorisation for the medication to be administered. The child must be named as the patient on the bottle. Please note that no member of staff will be liable for any ill effects of using medication so long as reasonable care has been taken. Administering medication is on a voluntary basis. Non-prescription medicines (mild pain killers, throat sweets etc.) are not allowed in school, unless the exceptional circumstances have been agreed by the Headteacher.
